You can live to be a hundred and enjoy each of those years as a fully functioning person--or so says Chopra (Unconditional Life, 1991, etc.) in this challenging work. An intriguing set of Census Bureau statistics cited here notes that the number of centenarians is twice what it was ten years ago- -and is expected to double again by the millennium. Prolonging fruitful lives is not a question of mind over matter, Chopra contends, but, rather, of mind and matter--mind and body

This is the most informative book I have read all year! Dr. Khalsa gives lots of background studies to back up the use of meditation for healing.
Having Dr. Khalsa from the medical profession make a statement that maybe medicating clients isn't always healing, indicates that there is a turn; a turn inward. In these times of turmoil, this book is a godsend. There are distinct instructions for implementing the meditations for the various chakras. If you can do just one of these meditations, you will find a plethora of benefits in the long run.
Use this book to tap into the strongest pharmacy on earth: your mind!
Pocketbook sized paperback with simple but powerful messages.

In this small (literally) book, HH Dalai Lama speaks of compassion, ridding oneself of anger, forgiveness of enemies, living life in a truly more loving way. Although much of it seems familiar to western ears [the ideas of love compassion and service are not unknown in western religion and philosophy], the simplicity of much of what the Dalai Lama says is striking.
His own struggles with anger are enlightening, and the prose, gleaned from lectures I believe, is smooth and cleanly transformed into English. There are other books of the Dalai Lama that are far more demanding ("tranforming the mind" for example), although few are more accesible.
A lovely gift,a wonderful introduction to one of the masters of the day.
Do you ever feel so rushed that you can't stop to think? That you don't have enough time to do your job well--or even to read this paragraph carefully? That's because you spend your time either speeding forward or thinking about the past few minutes, without really concentrating on living in the present moment.
In Timeshifting, Stephan Rechtschaffen teaches us that time is subjective, not objective, and that we can take back control of our lives by changing the way we think about time. We can relearn how to live our lives to their fullest potential; to have the time to enjoy ourselves, our families, and our jobs. Timeshifting is not about time management; it won't teach you how to do more in a shorter period of time. It will, however, give you back all the time you need to accomplish what you want, and you'll find that you are more relaxed, less stressed-out, and better able to enjoy the best things in life.
Have you read Haikus for Jews? It is one of the funniest and cleverest books I have read in a long time. Zen Judaism is just as funny and just as clever! And I am not a regular "Jewish humor" customer by any means. I just bought it yesterday and have already reccomended it over and over again.
It is perfect subway/bus reading, dinner party conversation (although I'd be careful you don't read it aloud when your guests are eating - they might choke from laughing and eating at the same time), or 'just in the mood to laugh' reading. It is well worth the price - and more! You'll love it.
